Uffie emerged on Myspace in January 2006 when she posted her first single Pop the Glock, produced by Feadz. She signed to Ed Banger, the label belonging to Pedro Winter that was home to the trendiest electronic music. She later stated that this track was composed “by accident.” Either way, it would lead to her first album, Sex Dreams and Denim Jeans in 2010 (which had Pharrell Williams at the helm, alongside Mr. Oizo, SebastiAn and Feadz). The American-Parisian singer’s career seemed to be heading for great things, however, two years later, after a long world tour, she decided to leave her music career behind in order to raise her two children. Ten years later, she’s back with a second album, and the title says it all: Sunshine Factory.
Logically, the album was written by the sea in a Portuguese fishing village, with Norwegian producer Lokoy and American Toro y Moi, who make Uffie’s vocals sparkle. The first half of the record has a big pop-rock/pop-punk sound, with tracks such as MVP, Dominoes and Where does the party go? which seem to be inspired by the Clash but with an Uffie-style twist. She possesses a genre-defying voice, and this is a superpower she makes good use of throughout the album. The second half of the release is reminiscent of Avril Lavigne and Grimes, with lots of catchy tracks like Sophia as well as catchy house music with the same spirit as Pop the Glock, Cool and Giants.
