Die diesseits des Atlantiks noch unbekannte Adia Victoria bringt ohne viel Trara schon ihr zweites Album heraus, das in Amerika bereits viele Anhänger hat: Silences. Die in Nashville lebende 32-jährige Songwriterin, Sängerin und Dichterin hatte ihr Debüt im Jahre 2016 mit Beyond The Bloodhounds gefeiert, dessen Titel der afroamerikanischen Aktivistin Harriet Jacobs gewidmet ist. Victoria, die mit ihrer sanften, allzeit passenden Velourstimme sogar France Galls Laisse tomber les filles coverte (How It Feels, 2017), schleudert uns hier zwölf Tracks entgegen, die sie zusammen mit Aaron Dessner von The National ausgetüftelt hat. Da Silences inhaltlich reichhaltiger ausgestattet ist – es sind nämlich sowohl Saxofon, Gitarre, Holzblässer und Elektro zu hören – hat man den Eindruck, einem Kampf gegen Dämonen beizuwohnen. In diesem Sinne versteht sie auch ihre Musik, als Blues über vertraute Themen, und nicht als Indie-Pop, wie man es auf den ersten Blick annehmen möchte. „Ich wollte, dass der Blues wieder Zähne zeigt. Das machte die Punkmusik anfangs auch, denke ich.
