Auf Revolver erkundeten die Beatles neuen musikalischen Boden, neue gefühlvolle Themen und neue Kompositionsformen. Harrison lieferte das eng gesetzte „Taxman“ ab und machte mit „Love You To“ einen ersten Ausflug in die indische Musik. Lennon überhäufte „And Your Bird Can Sing“ mit einem Gewirr mehrspuriger Gitarren, verlieh Ringo in „Yellow Submarine“ einen ungemein verspielten Anstrich und setzte dem Ganzen mit einem Triptychon schlechter Trips die Krone auf: dem sich hinaufschraubenden „She Said She Said“, dem träumerischen „I'm Only Sleeping“ und dem permanenten psychedelischen Wirbel von „Tomorrow Never Knows“. Paul machte Experimente mit der Form und versuchte sich an jedem Stil von Chamber-Pop bis Soul. Das bemerkenswerteste an Revolver ist vielleicht, dass die Beatles so viele neue Stilrichtungen einbezogen und sie perfekt auf einem einzigen Album kombiniert haben.
