Paul Kalkbrenner has made quite a happy home on Berlin’s BPitch Control, and with his newest release, he’s delivered yet another marvelously distinct EP. Kalkbrenner has been known to have a slightly more aggressive yet refined style, and he again comes through with two tracks that are both palatable yet distinctly unique. Title track “Bingo Bongo” is delivered simply enough, with its shuffling drum patterns and the hinting overlay of some very sparse synth lines, but when the new-acid main melody is dropped on to the composition, the progression of the track is quickly ramped up and one can’t help but be moved by its creative styling. Ramping things up for a more in-your-face approach, “Schwere Ware” fits right at home in the harder, more aggressive ilk of artists that proliferate most of southern Europe such as Tiga, Adam Beyer and DJ Hyper. Based primarily on a grinding bassline and a simple yet effective synth pattern, the track progresses simply while keeping the intensity checked in at a solid 10 at all times. Subtly making waves is what becoming a talented producer is all about, and Kalkbrenner again shows that its not quantity but quality that will garner you merit in the always tough DJ world.
