Bamao Yendé is renowned for his frenzied afro/rap/house mixes, but this time the boss of the Cergy Boukan Records label/collective is turning his attention to hip-hop with this EP that he has produced and with his acolyte Le Diouck on the mic, always ready to improvise over every track with his guttural voice. Of course, purists will point out that this isn’t completely in the boom bap genre, as Bamao Yendé has always had one eye firmly set on London. The first track Marvin Gueye is very R&B whereas the second one, Thomas Shelby (yes, this is an homage to Peaky Blinders) has a beat which is distinctly UK garage. Le Diouck and his iconoclastic flow create some catchy moments on this avant-garde album, especially on Shawty Flèche while his producer multiplies the links between hip-hop, 2-step and kuduro.
