Zack Lober
Canadian-bred, Netherlands-based bassist Zack Lober is known for his adept post-bop and modern creative jazz work. He has recorded regularly with saxophonist Chet Doxas and in 2023 made his debut as leader with the trio album NO FILL3R.
Born in Montreal, Lober grew up in a musical family. His grandfather Hyman Herman immigrated from Poland and was a successful drummer and bandleader for many years. Lober holds a master's degree from the Manhattan School of Music and has played with a bevy of artists from across the jazz and pop spectrum, including David Binney, Henry Threadgill, Lawrence "Butch" Morris, Ingrid Jensen, Zach Williams of the Lone Bellow, the Swingle Singers, and many others. He is a longtime associate of saxophonist Chet Doxas, with whom he has recorded such albums as Rate of Change, Sidewalk Etiquette, Rich in Symbols, and Rich in Symbols II.
Following periods spent living in New York and Boston, Lober eventually settled in the Netherlands, where he splits his time between performing and teaching. In 2023, he made his long-awaited debut as leader with NO FILL3R, featuring his trio with trumpeter Suzan Veneman and drummer Sun-Mi Hong.
