URNE

A wide-ranging English power trio, Urne utilizes aspects of progressive, death, doom, sludge, stoner, groove, hardcore, thrash, and post-metal to create their distinctive brand of sonic malevolence. The band's first full-length effort, 2021's Serpent & Spirit, paired potent, chugging riffs with serpentine arrangements, while 2023's A Feast on Sorrow went deeper into the void, darkening the group's mercurial extreme metal with a lyrical focus on death and illness. Formed in London in 2016 from the ashes of doomy metalcore group Hang the Bastard, Urne comprises vocalist/bassist Joe Nally, guitarist Angus Neyraafter, and drummer Richard Wiltshire. Citing influences like Metallica, Death, Gojira, Alice In Chains, and Mastodon, the trio issued their debut EP, The Mountain of Gold, independently in 2018. They inked a deal with Candlelight Records ahead of the release of their debut long-player, 2021's nervy, sludge-thrash opus Serpent & Spirit. Two years later, Urne returned with A Feast on Sorrow, a technical and emotionally complex set of songs inspired by the band members' recent experiences with suffering and loss.
