Ultra Q

Centered around the songwriting of Jakob Armstrong, (youngest son of Green Day's Billie Joe Armstrong) Ultra Q recalls the moody and angular energy of garage punk revivalists of the early 2000s. The band melded the influence of acts like the Strokes, Interpol, and the Killers with Armstrong's unique brand of angst on releases like their 2021 EP Get Yourself a Friend. Ultra Q was started by high school friends Armstrong, Kevin Judd, and Enzo & Chris Malaspina. Originally operating mostly as an after-school trio called Mt. Eddy, the project regrouped as Ultra Q when Judd joined on in 2019. The band's debut, the EP We're Starting to Get Along, was released to critical praise later that year, and the group toured as a support act as well as playing select festival dates. Ultra Q's second release, 2020's stylistically diverse In a Cave in a Video Game, was a reaction to the global COVID-19 pandemic, consisting of songs Armstrong wrote and recorded at home during the first weeks of lockdown. Third EP Get Yourself a Friend was released in 2021.
