The Slides
In a burst of retro charm and late-'60s charisma, the London based band the Slides made their entrance onto the British pop scene in 2003. Lead singer/guitarist Rod Da Rosa (Newport, South Wales), bass player Matt Brana-Martin (Birmingham, U.K.), drummer Colin Oldfield (Wigan, U.K.) and Hammond player Ian Compton (Surrey, U.K.) emerged as on of Britain's bands-to-be-watched in 2002 when they won the Emergenza U.K. Battle of the Bands. Coming in first out of a group of better than 350 bands and advancing to represent England at the European finals at the Taubertal Festival held in Germany brought the band a new level of recognition. The Slides signed with London-based independent label MVine Records in 2003. Their debut single "Can You Feel It" produced by rock veteran Max Hayes, whet fan's appetites for their debut mini-release Slow Bullet. The six-tune disc created a buzz throughout alternative media, earning the Slides the coveted reputation as Britain's "Next Big Thing." The band continued to gather steam leading up to their busy summer touring schedule beginning in May of 2007. Rather than flooding the market with unwanted material, the Slides whip their ever growing fan base into a froth, panting for their yet-to-be-released full-length record.
