Talk

TALK is the performing name of Canadian musician Nicholas Durocher, a throaty rock singer known for his heartfelt, space-themed ballad "Run Away to Mars." After self-releasing the track in 2021, the acoustic rocker became a viral success the following year, eventually climbing to the top of Billboard's Adult Alternative chart in early 2023. TALK relocated to Los Angeles and inked a deal with Capitol Records, which issued his full-length debut, Lord of the Flies & Birds & Bees, later that year. A former bassist in an Ottawa country group, Durocher had begun making solo music under the name TALK when the global pandemic hit. He retreated to his parents' home in the city's Stittsville neighborhood and continued writing new material. One night, inspired by Christopher Nolan's science fiction epic Interstellar, he began writing a passionate space-faring love ballad called "Run Away to Mars." Based on acoustic guitar, but with a larger-than-life arena rock feel, he released the track independently in June 2021. A minor success on the streaming networks, he included it on his first EP, Talk to Me, later that year. Feeling that the song hadn't quite reached its potential, TALK gave "Run Away to Mars" another promotional push in 2022, and its success began to snowball on social media; it eventually charted in both the U.S. and at home, where in early 2023 it reached number 22 on the Canadian Hot 100 chart. By this point, TALK and his band had moved to L.A., signed a major-label deal with Capitol, and released a follow-up single, "How to Save a Life." Tours, including one opening for Canadian country-pop legend Shania Twain, followed, and TALK released his debut album, Lord of the Flies & Birds & Bees, in October 2023.
