Formed in 2012 as a recording project for ex-Dokken members George Lynch, Jeff Pilson, and Mick Brown, Los Angeles-based hard rock outfit T&N, named in honor of Dokken's 1984 debut, Tooth & Nail, finds even ground between the arena rock/pop-metal pageantry of the past and the dark, progressive hard rock soundscapes of the 21st century. Bolstered by the hard-hitting drumwork of Brian Tichy, the band's debut album, 2012's Slave to the Empire, featured seven original tracks, five re-recorded Dokken cuts, and guest vocal appearances from Sebastian Bach (Skid Row), Tim "Ripper" Owens (Judas Priest), Doug Pinnick (King's X), and Robert Mason (Warrant).
