Scrim
New Orleans-based underground rapper Scrim is known for his dark, edgy hip-hop. He first garnered attention as a member of the duo $uicideboy$ before releasing his 2020 solo debut, A Man Rose from the Dead, and stuck to heavy subject matters and a deep inspection of personal demons on his 2024 sophomore effort Lonely Boy.
Born Scott Anthony Arceneaux, Jr. in 1989 in Marrero, Louisiana, Scrim (aka $lick $loth) became interested in music as a teenager listening to artists like T-Pain and Kanye West. He bought a laptop and began DJ'ing while attending Delgado Community College. In 2014, he formed $uicideboy$ with his cousin, rapper Ruby da Cherry. They built a following online and in 2018, cracked the Top Ten of the Billboard 200 with their debut studio album I Want to Die in New Orleans. The following year, they collaborated with blink-182 drummer Travis Barker on the EP Live Fast, Die Whenever, which also featured contributions from Korn guitarist James Shaffer. In 2020, Scrim made his solo debut with A Man Rose from the Dead, recorded in Palm Desert, California and inspired by his journey to sobriety. It would be four years before Scrim returned in 2024 with his second solo album, Lonely Boy. Released in February of that year, Lonely Boy featured 26 tracks that found the rapper closely inspecting pain and trauma, and it made a showing in the Billboard charts, topping the Heatseekers chart, and earning a respectable place at number 137 on the Billboard 200.
