Reflections

Melding rapid-fire drumming, percussive guitar lines, and fierce, jagged songs with ambient accents, Reflections are a band from Minneapolis whose work encompasses elements of progressive metal, djent, deathcore, and metalcore with an approach that's at once furious and precise. Reflections were formed in 2010 by vocalist Jake Foster and guitarist Patrick Somoulay, a pair of adventurous metal fans who attended the same Minneapolis high school. Eager to make music together, Foster and Somoulay recruited Patrick's cousin Francis Xayana to play bass in their new project. Guitarist Charles Caswell joined the group after meeting the others while attending the Summer Slaughter Tour during a stop in Minneapolis, and they found drummer Cam Murray through an online post. After developing a reputation by playing a variety of local shows, Reflections decided it was time to record, and like many bands on the djent scene, they cut their debut album, 2012's The Fantasy Effect, using a digital-based home-recording setup. The album earned positive reviews and attracted the attention of other open-minded metal fans after the group posted the album on Bandcamp and YouTube. After more regional touring and festival appearances, eOne Music signed Reflections to a record deal, and sent them into the studio with producer Eyal Levi; Reflections' second album, Exi(s)t, appeared just a year after their debut was released online. In 2015 the band returned with The Color Clear, which was their highest-charting outing to date, debuting at number six on the Heatseekers Albums Chart. The following year, the group announced that they would be taking an indefinite hiatus.
