OsamaSon

The dark, gritty sound of OsamaSon, heard on 2023 mixtapes Osama Season and Flex Musix, point toward hip-hop’s growing rage beats subgenre, known for its high energy and intense, synth-based production style. Raised in Goose Creek, South Carolina, OsamaSon (born Amari Middleton) started uploading projects to SoundCloud in 2021, including acclaimed underground release Im Da Man. After gaining increased attention in the hip-hop underground for 2023 singles “cts-v” and “Thuggin W My Rounds,” the rapper inked a deal with Atlantic Records, releasing Osama Season that same year. Tracks like “Werkin,” “Troops,” and the abrasive “X & Sex” became standouts on streaming services. Critics and fans noted comparisons to the sound of Playboi Carti's Opium label roster and their densely packed rage beats underscoring OsamaSon's singsong flow. (OsamaSon's profile was further raised when some interpreted social media posts by Carti as a dig against the prolific newcomer.) A follow-up mixtape, Flex Musix, arrived later that year. He supported the release with the single “Trenches,” as well as a 2024 tour sponsored by the hip-hop festival Rolling Loud.
