Margarita Rosa de Francisco
Daughter of a singer/actor and a clothes designer, Colombian singer/songwriter Margarita Rosa de Francisco started getting involved in show business in 1984, after coming in first place at a local beauty contest. In 1991 the young artist moved to Madrid to start studying acting, returning to her native country in 1993. Margarita Rosa de Francisco's debut came while composing the soundtrack for the soap opera Café Con Aroma De Mujer. After getting a record deal, her debut album, called Margarita Rosa, was released. Mostly influenced by Afro-Cuban rhythms, Brazilian bossa nova, and Spanish flamenco, Margarita Rosa de Francisco recorded 1998's La Madre and 2000's La Caponera. That same year, UNICEF named her Colombian ambassador.
