Marcello di Lisa

Italian conductor Marcello Di Lisa studied composition with Francesco Vizioli and harpsichord and fortepiano with Andrea Coen. He graduated in 2000 in classical letters from the University of Pisa, with concentrations in philology and Greek and Latin literature. Working with Antonio Carlini, Di Lisa wrote a dissertation on the manuscript tradition of Archimedes' works, and earned his Ph.D. in 2004. He also wrote for antiquarian publications, contributing articles on Greek mathematics. At the Scuola Normale Superiore in Pisa, Di Lisa founded and directed Concerto de' Cavalieri, a virtuoso period instruments ensemble that regularly gives concerts and appears at music festivals in Italy and internationally. Since 2011, he has devoted himself to The Baroque Project for Sony Classical, researching and performing Italian operas of the 18th century, in collaboration with Daniela Barcellona. Di Lisa's scholarly pursuits have included research into Roman music of the Baroque era, particularly the unpublished works of Alessandro Scarlatti. Di Lisa has also recorded for Deutsche Harmonia Mundi and CPO.
