KJ Scriven
Most well-known for having written and sung on Tye Tribbett's Grammy-winning album Greater Than, contemporary gospel artist KJ Scriven is a singer, songwriter, and music director whose solo releases, all self-issued, range from The Introduction (2010) to "Help Me Believe" (2019).
Fayetteville, North Carolina native Scriven started singing in church as a youngster. While attending Fayetteville State University, he picked up a guitar, and within a few years made his recorded debut via The Introduction, an EP self-released in 2009. After another EP, 2011's The Acoustic Experiment, he began to collaborate with other artists. He co-wrote "Love Came Down," recorded by James Fortune, and co-wrote and sang on Tye Tribbett's "What Can I Do," off Greater Than, awarded the 2013 Grammy for Best Gospel Album. Scriven then contributed to material recorded by the likes of Gerald & Tammi Haddon, Travis Greene, and Todd Galberth, and released more solo material, such as the three-song 2015 EP Hands and Feet. His output since then has included his own version of "Love Came Down" and the 2019 single "Help Me Believe." All the while, Scriven has remained directly connected to the church, whether overseeing a youth ministry or serving as music director of Transformation Church.
