Kandidate
This expansive UK disco and soul group came together in 1976 comprising members from two previous soul bands: Hot Wax (who went on to become Hi Tension) and 70% Proof. They were signed to Mickie Most’s RAK Records label and he also produced their recordings. Their debut ‘Don’t Wanna Say Goodnight’ was a minor hit in 1978 and this was followed by three more charting singles, including the number 11 hit, ‘I Don’t Wanna Lose You’ (1979). The line-up of the band was Teeroy (vocals/keyboards), Ferdi (bass), Alex Bruce (percussion), St Lloyd Phillips (drums/vocals), Tamby (guitar/vocals), Phil Fearon (guitar) and Bob Collins (percussion/vocals). Of these, only Fearon had any further chart success after Kandidate split. He built his own recording studio and had a string of hits in the mid-80s under his own name and the group name Galaxy.
