Julien K

California-based alt-electronic outfit Julien-K deliver digitally distorted, high-octane synth rock that pulls from goth, synth pop, and industrial alike. Emerging from the ashes of Orgy, Amir Derakh and Ryan Shuck teamed with Anthony "Fu" Valcic in the early 2000s, continuing with a sound familiar to any fan of their former group. Ominous, dark, and a little sexy, their new material landed in 2003, first in the form of a demo that included tracks like "Kick the Bass" and "Technical Difficulties" (which wound up on the 2007 Transformers soundtrack) as well as on video game soundtracks (most notably in the Sonic the Hedgehog universe). Their official debut, Death to Analog, arrived in 2009 and was produced by Tim Palmer (The Cure, HIM) and Chester Bennington (who co-founded Dead by Sunrise with Derakh and Shuck). Their sophomore LP, We're Here with You, landed in 2012. Their next era kicked off in 2014 with the release of "California Noir," a bright, pop-leaning single that marked the first taste of their new project of the same name. The crowd-funded California Noir: Chapter One - Analog Beaches & Digital Cities was released in early 2015, with Chapter Two - Nightlife in Neon arriving in 2016. The following year, Julien-K collected over a decade's worth of material for Time Capsule: A Future Retrospective, a 64-track behemoth that compiled previously unreleased songs, demos, and live performances. For album number five, they once again turned to supporters, who quadrupled their initial crowdfunding goal for the creation of 2020's Harmonic Disruptor. One of their heavier, more guitar-packed efforts, the LP featured one of their more popular singles, "Shut Down Your Soul."
