Juju & Jordash
Dutch duo Juju & Jordash (Gal Aner and Jordan Czamanski, respectively) perform improvisational dance music using hardware rather than computers or pre-recorded loops, harnessing the creative spirit of jazz to create otherworldly house and techno. Both musicians have been playing together in various jazz and experimental groups since the 1990s, but their electronic work as Juju & Jordash didn't surface until 2005's The Hush EP, issued by Detroit label Psychostasia Recordings. Two further EPs appeared on London's Real Soon in 2007, as the duo steadily increased their touring schedule. The digital release Major Mishap appeared on Ropeadope in 2008, but Juju & Jordash made their proper full-length debut with their self-titled 2009 album, one of the first releases by Dutch label Dekmantel. The single "Deep Blue Meanies" was subsequently remixed by Detroit techno pioneer Robert Hood, and the duo released further material on labels like Philpot, Rush Hour, and Golf Channel. Follow-up albums Techno Primitivism (2012) and Clean-Cut (2014) both received high praise from the dance music press. The duo collaborated extensively with David Moufang (Move D), releasing several EPs and a full-length as Magic Mountain High. Moufang and Czamanski also released Live in Seattle, a sprawling double CD documenting a typically adventurous performance, on Further Records in 2015. Additionally, the three musicians collaborated with ambient techno legend Jonah Sharp (Spacetime Continuum) as the Mulholland Free Clinic, issuing a self-titled full-length on Away Music in 2017. Juju & Jordash's fourth album for Dekmantel, Sis-Boom-Bah!, also appeared in 2017.
