Hetty Koes Endang, Ernie AB

Born in Jakarta, Indonesia on August 6, 1957, Hetty Koes Endang is a kroncong singer. Kroncong is a style that blends Indonesian and Portuguese genres. She made her debut with the album Sunyi, released in 1974. Three years later, “Damai Tapi Gersang” (1977), her duet with Ajie Bandi, became the first Indonesian song to win the World Popular Song Festival in Tokyo, Japan. The song is now regarded as one of the best Indonesian recordings of all time. During the 1980s, Hetty Koes Endang became the ‘voice’ of kroncong, reviving the genre and reaching new generations of listeners. In 1981, her recording of “Siksa”, a duet with childhood friend Eus Darliah, won the Best Performance Award at the Indonesian Popular Song Festival. She continued to win awards for her performances of songs like “Sayang” (1983) and “Berdiri Bulu Roma-ku” (1986). Since her 1974 debut album, Hetty Koes Endgang has issued more than 100 releases, many of them compilations. One of her most popular collections was 1999’s Alunan Emas 25 Tahun Kegemilangan (Golden Songs from 25 Years of Joy), which was a release that celebrated the 25th Anniversary of her debut album. In 2021, she released The Best Pop Sunda Of Hetty Koes Endang, Vol. 2.
