Goodbye Tomorrow

Infusing their bedrock emo base with Sigur Rós-like billows of dream pop atmosphere, the drummerless quartet Goodbye Tomorrow balance neatly between aggression and prettiness, sounding at times like a more song-oriented version of post-rock soundscape artists like Explosions in the Sky or Do Make Say Think. The first lineup of Goodbye Tomorrow formed in Phoenix, AZ, in 2003, but the young band did not take its final shape until 2006, when charter members David Roat (bass and programming) and Josh Johnson (guitar) were joined by singer and acoustic guitarist Travis Bryant, formerly of the Texas-based Christian emo act Terminal, and guitarist and programmer Matt Grabe. (Original singer Matthew Gilbert and drummer Josh Niles appeared on the band's 2004 self-released demo Tied by Miles.) Signing to the indie label Equal Vision Records (Coheed & Cambria, the Sound of Animals Fighting) in the spring of 2006, Goodbye Tomorrow released a self-titled three-song EP in July of that year, and by early 2007, Austin Wilson had become their new drummer.
