Ghandaia

Drawing from musical ideas with origins in North, Central, and South America, Austin, TX-based Ghandaia bring a new definition to the term "American music." Originally formed in early 2000, the band brought together musicians originating from nations such as Mexico, Cuba, Brazil, and the U.S. With a core comprised of Ed Jarusinsky (drums), Greg Jones (guitars), Pablo Larios (bass), and Alex Marrero (lead vocals, guitars, percussion), the group can swell to nine musicians with a high-impact percussion and horn section. The band released its debut recording in 2003, entitled Uno, featuring the single "A Côr do Som," heard by millions via a national Volkswagen ad campaign. Ghandaia made appearances at important southwestern festivals such as the San Jose Jazz Festival, ACL Festival, and SXSW. Thanks to a regular performance schedule and indie radio play, the group has developed a solid base among Latin, world music, and jam band fans alike. Their 2007 release, Evolucion, met with both positive critical acclaim and an enthusiastic audience reception. Ghandaia maintain a busy touring schedule throughout both the southwestern U.S. and northern Mexico.
