Fan Death
Named for the Korean belief that sleeping in an enclosed room with an electric fan running can cause hypothermia or asphyxiation, Fan Death’s music is similarly cold and suffocatingly lush. Dandilion Wind Opaine (of Dandi Wind) and Marta Jaciubek-McKeever concentrate on the darker aspects in their take on the disco revival, with song titles like "Cannibal" and a detached singing style. The female duo formed in Brooklyn, New York in 2007 and moved to Vancouver, B.C. before releasing their 2009 EP, A Coin for the Well. Producer Szam Findlay, violinist Marlene Ginader, and drummer Tony Dallas were brought in for live shows and, as a five piece, the group supported Little Boots and Vampire Weekend for the first few months of 2010, as Last Gang Records prepared Fan Death's debut full-length Womb of Dreams for a summer release.
