Fabiana Cantilo & Leo Garcia

One of the most popular female artists in Argentina's Rock Nacional movement, singer-songwriter Fabiana Cantilo was born in Buenos Aires on March 3, 1959. She began playing guitar at the age of 8 and was a member of the short-lived theatrical rock outfit Las Bay Biscuits before joining rockabilly group Los Twist in 1982. During that time, she met future romantic and creative partner Fito Páez while singing backing vocals on Charly García's band. In fact, it was García who produced her 1985 studio debut Detectives, which also featured songs by Spinetta and Fito Páez. In 1988, she returned with her second album Fabiana Cantilo y los Perros Calientes. Her big breakthrough moment arrived in 1991 with the release of Algo Mejor, a hit-packed album that featured the Calamaro-penned "Mi Enfermedad" and "Mary Poppins y el Deshollinador." Her next full-length, 1994's Golpes al Vacío, was the first one to not include contributions by Páez or García. Produced by Pedro Aznar, Sol en Cinco appeared in 1995 and included one of the biggest hits of her career, the Fito Páez original "Nada Es Para Siempre." In the following years, albums like De Qué Se Ríen? (1998), Información Celeste (2002), Insconsciente Colectivo (2005), Hija del Rigor (2007), and En la Vereda del Sol (2009) cemented her reputation as one of the strongest female voices in Argentine rock. Her musical evolution continued throughout the 2010s with titles like Ahora (2011), Superamor (2015), and the self-produced Cuna de Piedra (2019), all of which elicited praise by critics and audiences alike.
