Chip Deffaa
Chip Deffaa can be thought of in some ways as being the Stanley Dance of the 1980s and 90s in that he has documented the thoughts and stories of many veteran jazz musicians before it was too late. Unlike Dance, Deffaa is also interested in later jazz styles although he has tended to emphasize prebop music. His main forum has been being the jazz critic of the New York Post and Deffa has contributed regularly to Jazz Times, the Mississippi Rag, England's Crescecndo and Entertainment Legacy. But it is his books that will be his main significance in the long run. Thus far these include Swing Legacy, Voices of the Jazz Age, In the Mainstream, Traditionalists and Revivalists in Jazz, Jazz Veterans and Blue Rhythms.
