Andy Hall

A premier player of the resonator guitar, Andy Hall has enjoyed a successful career as a member of progressive bluegrass specialists the Infamous Stringdusters while releasing a string of respected solo albums. Also a singer and songwriter, Hall made his solo debut in 2004 prior to forming the group which has since gone on to become one of the prominent and best-loved string bands in the genre with numerous Grammy Award nominations and a win for their acclaimed 2017 album Laws of Gravity. Amid international tours and a busy Stringdusters recording schedule, Hall has continued to make music of his own, including 2021's experimental A Universe Within and 2023's virtuosic Squareneck Soul. A graduate of Berklee College of Music, Hall was the first of his future bandmates to migrate to Nashville, where he self-released his solo debut, Redwing, in 2004. He continued to establish himself around town, working as a session musician and playing Ronnie Bowman's band. The Infamous Stringdusters formed a year later and in 2007 released their debut, Fork in the Road. It won four International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA) awards, effectively launching their career as one of the nation's most prominent contemporary string bands. Hall won his own IBMA award in 2008 for his second solo release, The Sound of the Slide Guitar. As the Stringdusters rose to acclaim and toured the world, Hall continued to pick up session work, guesting on albums by Dolly Parton, Justin Hayward, and many others. In 2017, the same year the Stringdusters released their Grammy-winning Laws of Gravity LP, Hall and pedal steel player Roosevelt Collier teamed up for a duet album, Let the Steel Play. He went the traditional route on 2020's 12 Bluegrass Classics for Resophonic Guitar, then branched out with 2021's genre-blurring ambient set A Universe Within. He also continued teaching lessons while managing annual releases with the Stringdusters. In 2023, Hall worked with guitarist Billy Strings on his next solo outing, Squareneck Soul.
