Alistair McGowan

Born in Evesham, Worcestershire, England in 1964, Alistair McGowan has become a well-known staple of British television, radio, and stage. Starting his career as an impressionist in the '80s on the satirical puppet show Spitting Image, McGowan continued to work in TV with roles in various comedy shows and dramas. In 2000 he was joined by Ronni Ancona in the BAFTA-winning Alistair McGowan's Big Impression show on BBC, which ran until 2004 and made him a household name. McGowan returned to drama in 2005 with a part in the BBC's adaptation of Charles Dickens' Bleak House. Over the next few years, roles in musicals and stage shows continued, with performances in Little Shop of Horrors, The Mikado, and Cabaret. After giving up the piano when he was nine, McGowan was determined to re-learn it, and in 2016 created the one-man show Erik Satie's-Faction -- which used the French composer's writings and music as its source material -- with the show requiring him to play piano live in front of an audience for the first time. Spurred on by his newfound love of the instrument, McGowan entered the studio to record what would become his debut album. The resulting Piano Album was released at the tail-end of 2017 and saw him performing a selection of short classical works by a number of composers including Bach, Grieg, Chopin, and Satie.
