Born Li Yuchun in Chengdu, Sichuan, China on March 10, 1984, the Mandopop singer, songwriter, and actress is better known by her stage name Chris Lee. Her distinct unisex look and mezzo-soprano vocal range have set her apart from most of her contemporaries. Chris Lee has proven herself to be one of modern China’s most versatile stars. Lee’s career began in 2005 when she won the televised Chinese talent competition Super Girl. She released three singles – “Merry Christmas”, “Give Me Five”, and “Happy Wake Up” – before she started work on her debut album, The Queen and the Dreams (2006). After recording a charity single, “Green” with Chinese band The Catcher in the Rye, she released her second album, Mine (2007). She released the Youth of China EP in 2008, the same year she won the MTV Asia Award for Favorite Artist Mainland China. Lee then branched out into acting, earning acclaim for her role in the film Bodyguards and Assassins (2009). Later that same year, she released the album Chris Lee. Over the next decade, she continued to act in highly-acclaimed movies alongside touring and recording more successful albums including The Literary Youth Who Can Dance (2011), Old If Not Wild (2012), A Magical Encounter 1987 (2014), and Wow (2019). In 2020, she released the single “Priceless Sister”.
