À l’âge où tant de djêun’s s’amusent avec leurs consoles de jeux, à savoir quinze ans, le jeune Mozart avait déjà dépassé la centaine d’œuvres à son actif ; Ascanio in Alba date de 1771 – il s’agit d’une « fête théâtrale » ou encore un « opéra pastoral » –, et fut écrit sur la demande de l’impératrice Maria Theresa. On y entend déjà d’innombrables mozartismes de première qualité, des hardiesses harmoniques fort étonnantes qui ont dû surprendre bien des contemporains, et un sens de la conduite dramatique qui ne se démentira jamais par la suite. Quelque gluckismes de ci, de là, mais qui irait s’en plaindre ? Pour cet enregistrement de 1976 qui n’a pas pris une ride, le plateau royal rassemble Agnes Baltsa dans le rôle-titre, Arléen Auger, Edith Mathis, Peter Schreier – excusez du peu… –, le tout sous la direction claire et précise de Leopold Hager. À l’âge où tant de djêun’s s’amusent avec leurs consoles de jeux, à savoir quinze ans, le jeune Mozart avait déjà dépassé la centaine d’œuvres à son actif ; Ascanio in Alba date de 1771 – il s’agit d’une « fête théâtrale » ou encore un « opéra pastoral » –, et fut écrit sur la demande de l’impératrice Maria Theresa. On y entend déjà d’innombrables mozartismes de première qualité, des hardiesses harmoniques fort étonnantes qui ont dû surprendre bien des contemporains, et un sens de la conduite dramatique qui ne se démentira jamais par la suite. Quelque gluckismes de ci, de là, mais qui irait s’en plaindre ? Pour cet enregistrement de 1976 qui n’a pas pris une ride, le plateau royal rassemble Agnes Baltsa dans le rôle-titre, Arléen Auger, Edith Mathis, Peter Schreier – excusez du peu… –, le tout sous la direction claire et précise de Leopold Hager.
