Pour cet enregistrement du Messie de Handel réalisé dans la nouvelle Cathédrale de Coventry en novembre 2022, John Nelson et l’English Concert ont établi leur propre version parmi les nombreuses variantes de la partition dont certaines figurent tout bonnement dans l’autographe d’origine, avec d’autres conservées après diverses exécutions à Dublin et à Londres.


Reconnu en France comme un spécialiste de Berlioz, le chef américain d’origine portoricaine est l’un des chefs les plus polyvalents sur la scène internationale où il est reconnu comme interprète des grandes œuvres romantiques, comme de celles du répertoire classique de Haydn et Mozart et du monde baroque de Bach et Handel, des compositeurs auxquels il imprime son énergie avec un même bonheur.


Les spécialistes de Handel seront heureux de trouver à la fin de cet album 8 airs alternatifs venant compléter l’audition intégrale de cette œuvre maîtresse qui reste une des principales sources de l’amour que les Anglais vouent au genre de l’oratorio. Enregistrée en concert, cette nouvelle version, intimiste et joyeuse, marque les débuts de John Nelson à la tête de l’English Concert fondé il y a plus de 50 ans à Londres par Trevor Pinnock.

Pour cet enregistrement du Messie de Handel réalisé dans la nouvelle Cathédrale de Coventry en novembre 2022, John Nelson et l’English Concert ont établi leur propre version parmi les nombreuses variantes de la partition dont certaines figurent tout bonnement dans l’autographe d’origine, avec d’autres conservées après diverses exécutions à Dublin et à Londres.


Reconnu en France comme un spécialiste de Berlioz, le chef américain d’origine portoricaine est l’un des chefs les plus polyvalents sur la scène internationale où il est reconnu comme interprète des grandes œuvres romantiques, comme de celles du répertoire classique de Haydn et Mozart et du monde baroque de Bach et Handel, des compositeurs auxquels il imprime son énergie avec un même bonheur.


Les spécialistes de Handel seront heureux de trouver à la fin de cet album 8 airs alternatifs venant compléter l’audition intégrale de cette œuvre maîtresse qui reste une des principales sources de l’amour que les Anglais vouent au genre de l’oratorio. Enregistrée en concert, cette nouvelle version, intimiste et joyeuse, marque les débuts de John Nelson à la tête de l’English Concert fondé il y a plus de 50 ans à Londres par Trevor Pinnock.
