La mise en musique par Haendel de textes liturgiques, pour le Premier Duc de Chandos, sont parmi les oeuvres chorales les plus connues du compositeur. Elles sont de parfaits exemples du style anglais du compositeur que l'on peut retrouver dans Acis et Galatée et des oratorios comme Judas Maccabée. Sur cet enregistrement on retrouve les solistes haendeliens parmi les meilleurs de la scène internationale, à commencer par la soprano Susan Gritton et le contre-ténor Iestyn Davies, ainsi que le jeune ténor Thomas Hobbs dont la chaleur et le lyrisme sont parfaits dans ce répertoire. Le Trinity College Choir Cambridge chante avec exubérance, élégance et précision, sous la baguette de l'expert Stephen Layton.
