Ce quatrième album de Kid Rock est celui qui l’a révélé au grand public et lui a permis de devenir enfin une star. Malgré toute l’animosité que mérite ce rockeur de pacotille, il est force de reconnaître que le succès de cet album est compréhensible.
Ce n’est cependant pas une raison, comme certains ont eu le mauvais goût de faire, pour comparer Kid Rock aux Beasties Boys de Licensed to Ill. En effet, cette fusion de rock, rap, gospel, country et blues reste peu convaincante, malgré l’efficacité certaine de titres comme l’original « Bawitdaba » et « Devil without a Cause ».
« Only God Knows Why » est une balade efficace, malgré des arrangements douteux. Kid Rock s’en donne aussi à cœur joie avec excessivement saturé « Fuck Off », où il expose son phrasé et sa gouaille qui n’ont rien à envier aux meilleurs de la scène hip-hop de Detroit.
« Wasting my Time » profite de beaux arrangements aux accents gospel malgré des paroles affligeantes : « Je suis un proxénète, vous pouvez vérifier mes stats (…) la vie est une p…, mais je me débrouille avec elle » qui ont l’inconvénient de sonner faux dans la bouche de Bobby Ritchie. Ce qui passe chez Eminem, d’ailleurs présent sur le très bon « Devil without a Cause », ne passe pas chez Kid Rock.

Ce quatrième album de Kid Rock est celui qui l’a révélé au grand public et lui a permis de devenir enfin une star. Malgré toute l’animosité que mérite ce rockeur de pacotille, il est force de reconnaître que le succès de cet album est compréhensible.
Ce n’est cependant pas une raison, comme certains ont eu le mauvais goût de faire, pour comparer Kid Rock aux Beasties Boys de Licensed to Ill. En effet, cette fusion de rock, rap, gospel, country et blues reste peu convaincante, malgré l’efficacité certaine de titres comme l’original « Bawitdaba » et « Devil without a Cause ».
