Les plus jeunes ne le savent peut-être pas mais il fut un temps où Rod Stewart était l’un des plus grands chanteurs de rock d’outre-Manche. Et ses albums Gasoline Alley (1970), Every Picture Tells A Story (1971) et Never A Dull Moment (1972) rivalisaient alors sans difficulté avec ce que l’Angleterre produisait au début des années 70. Depuis, il y eut des hauts et pas mal de bas, mais Rod The Mod reste un grand nom alors qu’il est entré en 2015 dans sa 70e année… Force est de reconnaitre que cet Another Country est une excellente surprise. Personne n’ira évidemment crier que notre homme signe ici une œuvre aussi puissante que le triptyque cité plus haut, mais ses compositions alternant entre classic rock, rock’n’roll soul, folk celtique et hymnes de stade à la Springsteen font toutes leur petit effet… Les années et l’alcool ont buriné la voix d’or de Rod Stewart qui livre à l’arrivée une belle performance, efficace et parfois même touchante, de vieux routier. © CM/Qobuz
