Acis et Galatée est l'une des oeuvres les plus populaires de Haendel, une délicieuse succession d'airs pastoraux et amoureux, de choeurs sémillants, et d'interventions épicées du cyclope géant Polyphème, qui cherche à vaincre l'idylle entre le berger Acis et la nymphe Galatée. A l'origine une cantate italienne de 1708, Haendel a retravaillé une version en anglais (livret de John Gay) sous forme de masque en deux actes en 1739. C'est cette dernière version qui est présentée ici par Gerard Schwarz.
