In a move to beat bootleggers to the punch, Pearl Jam decided to release each of their 2000 American concert performances in a series of inexpensive double-CD sets. The August 12th concert recorded in Tampa, FL, starts with an earnest cover of Pink Floyd's "Interstellar Overdrive" before drifting into "Courduroy." This album seems to be plagued with recording problems: The mix is strangely airy and open, as if the sound engineer was recording from the back of the stadium. There is an evident echo on lead singer Eddie Vedder's voice and the guitars are way up in the mix. To top it all off, there is an asterisk next to the last song on the second disc indicating that the tape machines malfunctioned during "Last Exit," and they added the masterboard tape version of the song at the end of the album. This strange ambience is a hindrance on the more fast-paced numbers, but the airy versions of "Garden" and "Immmortality" really benefit from this effect, as do Eddie Vedder's flawless ukulele-only "Soon Forget" and the disaffected "Indifference." While the quality of the show is better than any "real" bootleg out there, in comparison with some of the other live shows in this series it's lacking.
