À propos

Ensemble vocal britannique formé en 2005 par les frères Paul et Barnaby Smith, Voces8 concilie le répertoire choral sacré et la musique séculaire. La formation a beaucoup évolué en fonction des changements d'interprètes. Après une apparition remarquée au festival international Venezia Musica, Voces8 se professionnalise et enregistre l'album Evensong (2008) avant de signer avec le label Signum Classics, puis Decca. Viennent ensuite Aces High (2010), Christmas (2012), A Purcell Collection (2014), avec le concours de l'orchestre français Les Inventions, primé par BBC Magazine. Le groupe s'attache également à promouvoir les compositeurs contemporains notamment dans l'album Winter (2016), comprenant des compositions de Peteris Vasks, Arvo Pärt, Ola Gjeilo, Jan Sandström, Olafur Arnalds et Rebecca Dale. En 2019, l'album Enchanted Isle propose un éventail de morceaux Thomas Adès, John Tavener, Samuel Barber, Enya, Massive Attack ou Radiohead, aux côtés d'airs traditionnels. L'année suivante paraît l'ambitieux projet After Silence, où des pièces de William Byrd, Monteverdi et Bach côtoient une sélection de partitions vocales contemporaines. Très apprécié des amateurs de musique chorale, l'ensemble se produit régulièrement lors de grandes tournées mondiales. Son timbre unique est unanimement reconnu par la critique pour sa pureté solaire et sa précision. En 2023 les Voces8 publient Home, un album exclusivement consacré aux oeuvres d'Eric Whitacre.
