The Tri-Fives
The Tri-Five made an obscure 1963 single that is noted by some collectors for its slight Beach Boys connection. The group, which existed only in the studio, included Carl Wilson of the Beach Boys on lead guitar, Dennis Wilson of the Beach Boys on drums, Richie Burns on bass, and Gary Usher on rhythm guitar. Both sides (written by Usher and Mike Borchetta) were pretty routine if driving surf tunes, produced by Usher; a bell carries much of the melody on the A-side "Come and Get It." Both that track and its B-side, "Like Chop," were reissued on Surfin', a 2000 CD compilation that also included the Beach Boys' pre-Capitol recordings for Candix and another Usher-produced single (by the Four Speeds) on which Dennis Wilson played drums.
