Silambarasan TR
Silambarasan Thesingu Rajendar – who also operates under the names S.T.R. or Simbu – was born in Krishnagiri, Tamil Nadu, India on February 3, 1983 and followed in his father's footsteps to establish himself in the Tamil film industry. He started his entertainment career from an early age, taking on roles as a child actor in various films directed by his father T. Rajendar, even appearing as a newborn baby in the 1984 Indian Tamil-language film, Uravai Kaatha Kili. Throughout the 1990s, he made appearances in a string of his father's films, including Thai Thangai Paasam, Oru Vasantha Geetham, En Thangai Kalyani, and Enga Veetu Velan, before stepping out on his own as the lead role in Kadhal Azhivathillai, the 2002 Indian Tamil-language romantic action film also written and directed by T. Rajendar. Around the same time, he also began forging a notable career as a playback singer, first singing in Sonnal Thaan Kathala – his father's 2001 Indian Tamil-language romance film – and singing "Baila More" in A.R. Rahman's 2002 Tamil-language romance Kadhal Virus. Over the next few decades, he built up a varied repertoire as a playback singer across more than 90 songs, usually in his own films and often teaming up with the composer Yuvan Shankar Raja, with whom he most recently worked on the 2018 Tamil-language thriller, Raja Ranguski. In 2011, he released his first non-film single, "Love Anthem For World Peace and Love" and made his foray into the Tollywood film industry to sing '"Diamond Girl" on 2013's Baadshah. He has notched up composer credits for the 2017 Tamil-language comedy film Sakka Podu Podu Raja and 2019's Tamil-language adult comedy film 90ML, among others, and has over the years picked up an array of awards for his work, including the Edison Award for Best Actor for 2016's Achcham Yenbadhu Madamaiyada. In 2021, he worked as a playback singer on three songs, including "Muruga" on the Tamil-language action-thriller film Yaadhum Oore Yaavarum Kelir.
