Scott Fab

A singer/songwriter with a warmly melancholic tone, Scott Fab initially came up through the Detroit hardcore punk scene in the 1980s playing drums for the band GCMS. Fab had transitioned into acoustic music by the early '90s, emerging as a respected alt-folk tunesmith with a dark-hued introspective style. Over the next several years he became a fixture of the Detroit music scene and recorded a pair of independent EPs, the most prominent of which was 1997's Lately. It was still the era of big label contracts, and Fab pursued demo deals with a handful of prominent record companies before moving away from the music industry in the early 2000s. A decade passed before he made a cautious return, quietly booking a handful of low-key shows and reestablishing his connection to Southeast Michigan's music network. Working with longtime collaborators Cary Marsh and Gary Watts, Fab returned to Big Sky Recording in Ann Arbor, where he and engineer Geoff Michael had made his last release nearly 20 years before. The resulting album, 2017's understated Leave My Friends, was Fab's first ever full-length release.
