Mumu Fresh
Baltimore-based singer/songwriter Maimouna Youssef (aka Mumu Fresh) incorporates many genres into her music, including R&B, soul, blues, and rap.
Youssef was born in Baltimore, but she moved to Philadelphia at the age of ten and attended the Duke Ellington School of Arts, graduating in 2002. After a brief stint at the New York Film Academy, she moved back to Baltimore to live with her aunt. She contributed vocals to the Roots' "Don't Feel Right" in 2007, earning her a Grammy nomination. This became a springboard for Youssef, who released her debut EP, Black Magic Woman, and her debut album, The Blooming, in 2011. It was some years before a follow-up arrived in 2017's Vintage Babies, which featured guest spots from Common, Irvin Washington, and Malik Yusef. After another four-year gap, Youssef resurfaced with a third album, 2021's Queen of Culture.
