Mame Khan

Mame Khan is an Indian playback singer and folk musician known for his contributions to the Hindi film industry. The son of folk singer Ustad Rana Khan, he was born in Satto, a small village near Jaisalmer, Rajasthan, and was exposed to Manganiyar folk music from a very young age. His formal musical education began at age 14 when he was granted a six-year scholarship by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations. Even though he made his official Bollywood debut on the Shankar Mahadevan-directed drama Luck by Chance (2009), it wasn't until 2012 that he was catapulted to stardom thanks to a live performance of the song "Chaudhary" on the music show Coke Studio @ MTV. Mame Khan's Desert Sessions, his crowdfunded studio debut, appeared in 2015 and was followed a year later by a second album titled Summer Nights on the Dunes. In 2017, he collaborated with the songwriting duo Salim-Sulaiman on the intro song to the Viu India web series and talk show No. 1 Yaari. Over the next few years, Mame Khan delivered a string of well-received singles that included "Laal Peeli Ankhiyan" (2018), "Jogiya" (2018), and "Sifar" (2019), and lent his voice to several high-profile television commercials. In addition to his solo output, Mame Khan has also participated in Shankar Mahadevan's folk project My Country, My Music and toured the world as the lead vocalist for Roysten Abel's The Manganiyar Seducion, a live show that gathered over 40 Manganiyar musicians from Rajasthan.
