Libido

Formed in 1996, Libido is an alternative rock band hailing from Lima, Peru, bringing together Salim Vera (vocals, guitars), Antonio Jauregui (bass), Manolo Hidalgo (lead guitar), and a changing roster of drummers over the years. These musicians have been instrumental in the band's unique sound, leading them to win two Los Premios MTV Latinoamérica in the early 2000s and gaining recognition across the continent. Their debut album, Libido, released in 1998, catapulted them to national fame, with hits like "Como un Perro" and "Sed." This success was further solidified by their sophomore album Hembra in 2000, released via Sony Music, which featured chart-topping singles "Tres" and "En Esta Habitación." Libido's international footprint grew with performances in Argentina, the United States, Venezuela, and Chile, and they were honored at the MTV Latin American VMAs in 2002 and 2003, marking significant milestones for Peruvian rock. Their album Pop*Porn, released in December 2002, was another massive success, with the single "Frágil" taking the top spot on MTV charts. Despite internal changes, like the departure of drummer Jeffry Fischman in 2005, the band continued to experiment and evolve. Their 2005 album, Lo Último que Hable Ayer, saw a shift in their signature sound, sparking debates among fans. A hiatus followed, but they returned in 2009 with Un Día Nuevo, engaging fans through innovative mobile marketing. In 2013, founding member Antonio Jauregui quit the band, leading to a legal dispute. Over the next couple of years, Libido continued to perform both locally and internationally, but no new material would see the light of day until 2016 when the band issued their EP, Amar o Matar.
