Jane Saunders

b. 1966, Windsor, New South Wales, Australia. The family of 90s country singer Jane Saunders moved to the Blue Mountains when she was young, and she describes the area as ‘pretty, picturesque with not many neighbours’. She met her husband, David Saunders, in 1985 and he backed her on guitar. A track from her promotional tape was used on a compilation, The Best Of Australia, and she was subsequently signed to ABC Records. She wrote several songs on her debut album, Stranger To Your Heart, and the others were carefully chosen. ‘Life In A Small Town’ was nominated for Song Of The Year in the Australian Country Music Awards. Her producer is John Kane of the Flying Emus and she has worked with John’s wife, Genni, and Shanley Del as Saunders, Kane and Del, a country harmony group that owes much to the Trio album by Dolly Parton, Emmylou Harris and Linda Ronstadt. The key track is a gorgeous version of the Beatles’ ‘Here Comes The Sun’. She is also featured on ‘I Am A Child’, a single by Rod McCormack and Mick Albeck. Saunders’ voice, choice of material and acoustic music are all extremely impressive. On Poetic Justice she did poetic justice to Bob Dylan’s ‘I Threw It All Away’ and the Byrds’ ‘Ballad Of Easy Rider’.
