Hyro The Hero
Hyro the Hero picks up where rap/metal pioneers like Rage Against the Machine and Korn left off, shouting bombastic and energetic flows over tight punk and metal grooves. Hyro got his start when he relocated from his home base of Houston, Texas to Los Angeles in 2007. After several mixtapes (under the name Hyro da Hero before slightly altering the moniker), he released the 2011 album Birth, School, Work, Death and toured internationally in support of the release. It would be seven years before he followed it up with second album Flagged Channel in 2018, and third album Bound for Glory followed on the Better Noise label in 2023.
Hyron Fenton was born in 1978 and grew up in Houston, Texas before relocating to Los Angeles in 2007. His Hyro the Hero project combined punk and metalcore instrumentation with Fenton's adrenaline-filled rap styles, calling to mind the approach of early heroes of the rap-rock genre. His first mixtape, Gangsta Rock, materialized in late 2007, followed quickly by Rock & Roll Gangsta in 2008 and Belo Horizonte in 2009. His first proper studio album was 2011's Birth, School, Work, Death, which included contributions from members of Sparta, Blood Brothers, Glowbug, and others. Hyro toured relentlessly in support of the album, doing shows and festivals in the U.K. and the U.S. with a full backing band. This phase was busy and connective, including tours and collaborations with the Blackout, performing live with Wu Tang Clan, a spot on Warped Tour, and opening slots on tours with the Deftones and Mindless Self Indulgence. In 2016, he returned to the studio with producer Mitchell Marlow, working on tracks that eventually congealed as second album Flagged Channel in 2018.
For the next few years, Hyro appeared primarily in the form of collaborations, issuing joint singles or contributing to tracks with Twiztid, Atreyu, Black Tiger Sex Machine, and others. In 2023, however, he began sharing new songs in advance of the release of his third album, Bound for Glory. The album continued Hyro's collaborative streak, with guest features from members of Solence, Ice Nine Kills, HELLYEAH, Fire from the Gods, and many others. Bound for Glory was released in September of 2023 on the Better Noise label.
