Hans Platzgumer
Austrian-born singer/guitarist Hans Platzgumer first achieved notice in the early '90s, shortly after relocating to New York City with compatriot and longtime collaborator Frank Puempel (bass/vocals) and forming the psychedelic alt-rock act H.P. Zinker. Recorded with the aid of a drum machine, their debut EP, 1989's ...And There Was Light forged a highly eclectic sound, flirting with everything from folk to jazz to heavy metal, and also happened to be the first release ever by indie label Matador. Numerous lineup changes and a string of LPs followed, often garnering great praise in the underground press, until the band's breakup in 1995. Platzgumer then returned to Europe and reinvented himself as an electronica maven, experimenting with various dance and house styles before releasing various albums under his own name, as well as with the Aura Anthropica pseudonym.
