Gold Fields

Known for their '80s new wave-influenced sound, Australia's Gold Fields first emerged in 2010 after their single "Treehouse" gained airplay. They further expanded their sound with their 2013 debut Black Sun, drawing favorable comparisons to iconic bands like Duran Duran as well as contemporaries like the 1975 and M83. Formed in the Melbourne suburb of Ballarat, Victoria, Australia in 2010, Gold Fields feature vocalist Mark Robert Fuller, guitarist Vin Andanar, keyboardist Rob Clifton, bassist Luke Peldys, and drummer Ryan D'Sylva. Having grown up together, they initially decided to form a band after watching Temper Trap perform at Australia's Falls Festival. Naming themselves after the Gold Fields region of South-Eastern Australia, they quickly recorded several singles, one of which, "Treehouse," was picked up by national radio station Triple J's Unearthed program. Buoyed by their growing buzz, they started touring the U.K. and were eventually discovered and signed by Astralwerks, which issued their eponymous 2011 EP. In 2013, Gold Fields delivered their debut full-length album, Black Sun, featuring the single "Dark Again." They spent the next few years touring and working on a follow-up. They returned in 2019 with their sophomore full-length, Dalawa. Produced by Tony Espie (the Avalanches, Architecture in Helsinki, Cut Copy), the album included the song "Cocoon," as well as the three songs from the 2018 Glow EP.
