Erwin Gutawa
Erwin Gutawa is an award-winning Indonesian composer who received the Anugerah Musik Indonesia award for his orchestral rock concert Rockestra in 2001. He was born as "Erwin Gutawa Sumapraja" in Jakarta May 16, 1962. After working as a sound arranger for the TV show Telerama during the early 1980s, he performed with the jazz band Karimata during the decade's middle half and remained with the group through the early '90s. Celebrated for his arrangements, he contributed to multiple albums by the pop singer Chrisye, including 1997's Kala Cinta Menggoda and1999's critically-acclaimed Badai Pasti Berlalu. One year later, he staged his Rockestra show in November 2000, joined by an 85-piece orchestra and multiple guest artists. The concert was a success, earning Gutawa an Anugerah Musik Indonesia award for "Best Music Arranger." He began performing solo shows the following year and continued to arrange music for artists, choirs, and ensembles like the London Symphony Orchestra. His solo album, Salute to Koes Plus / Bersaudara, was released in 2004, and he later served as a judge during the 2010 season of Indonesian Idol. After releasing another solo album, Symphonesia, in 2021, he returned the following year with the single "Andai Aku Bisa."
