Chronics

A European garage punk band inspired by the likes of the Real Kids and the Saints, the Chronics were founded in Bologna, Italy in 1996. The group was formed by singer and guitarist Stefano Toma, bassist and backing vocalist Gabriele Balducci, and drummer Davide Scibetta. The Chronics released their first single in 1999; rather than working with an Italian label, "First Time, Best Time" was issued by the American punk label Rip Off Records. Balducci left the band in 2000, and Roberto Fabbri became their new bassist. The Chronics released their first full-length, It's Too Late, in 2002. A second album, Suggested for Mature Audiences, appeared in 2004. Scibetta parted ways with the Chronics that same year, and Marco Turci became their new drummer. In 2009 the Chronics went on hiatus, and when they returned in 2013 Stefano Toma and Marco Turci had a new bass player, Stefano Felcini. The Chronics collaborated with former Minutemen bassist Mike Watt and his band the Secondmen on a split single released by Asian Man Records in 2014, and in addition to touring together, the two acts teamed up for a second joint single for Org Music in 2015. The group partnered with another noted American band, Barrence Whitfield & the Savages, for a third split single, this time with the Chronics covering the 13th Floor Elevators' "(I've Got) Levitation," while Whitfield performed Captain Beefheart's "Zig Zag Wanderer."
