Afro Cult Foundation

Best known for providing the soundtrack to Ola Balogun’s legendary 1978 film Black Goddess, Afro Cult Foundation – sometimes referred to as Afrocult Foundation – was a Nigerian band featuring Joni Haastrup on guitar and keyboards, Remi Kabaka Adenihun on drums and keyboards, Dele Okonkwo on saxophone and percussion, and B.D. ‘Biddy’ Wright on bass guitar, keyboards, and percussion. Their sole album, Black Goddess, was initially only released in Nigeria and Brazil in 1978. The album became a much desired release when the track “The Quest” was released on the 2001 compilation Nigeria 70: The Definitive Story of 1970s Funky Lagos. In 2011, the Black Goddess soundtrack was officially reissued for the first time outside of Nigeria and Brazil by Soundway Records.
